The Bolwerksmolen is a sawmill in Deventer on the western bank of the IJssel, near the Wilhelminabrug. The mill was registered as a national monument in 1968. It was built in 1863 by the Elfrink brothers and was put into operation in 1865. Shortly after its construction, two saw frames were narrowed. During the time the mill was operational, several floods occurred around the IJssel, including in 1883, 1920, and 1926. However, since the mill is situated at a natural height along the river, only the saw floor was temporarily submerged. When lightning struck on July 31, 1911, the mill surprisingly did not burn down. From February 1921, the mill came into the hands of the nearby steam sawmill Wilpsche Dijk, which subsequently ceased sawing using wind power in 1927. The mill quickly fell into disrepair but proved useful as a storage shed. The mill pond also remained in use for watering logs. For these reasons, the mill remains standing and was ultimately not demolished.
