Description

The Elias Beeckman barracks is a former army barracks in Ede. Until the end of 2010, he was part of the Ede-Oost barracks complex, which also included the Simon Stevin barracks. The barracks was opened in 1939 and was designed by Captain of Engineers A.G. Boost. It is a national monument. On the eve of the Second World War, the 22 Infantry Regiment was stationed here, which left for the Grebbeberg during the mobilization. During the war, the German occupiers used all barracks in Ede as a training location for the troops. After the liberation, Canadians were temporarily stationed there. After the location was declared completely free of mines and other explosives, it became the training location for 4, 5 and 6 Battalion Hunters in 1946, before they were to be sent to the Dutch East Indies. In the early 50s, space was made for artillery training and for the newly formed Regiment of Heutsz. The 2 Volunteer Training Center was also located here. This would later move to Weert and be merged with the 1 VOC from Wezep under the name Non-Commissioned Officers School, the later Royal Military School.
