The Beekhuizerbeek is originally a spring stream to which later sprengkoppen were added. The stream originates in a large, deeply dug sprengkop in the forest near the Beekhuizense Weg. Downstream is a waterfall followed by a narrow pond. Further on, the water again flows over a waterfall and then feeds the large ornamental pond at Beekhuizen. Sprengkoppen are branches of a stream that are dug into the slope of a hill. By digging a channel in sandy soil, the water present in the ground was collected. This was done not only for the drinking water supply but also for the feeding of artificial streams on which watermills were built. Such a stream was not constructed, as in the natural situation, at the lowest point of the valley, but rather against the slope of the valley. This allowed the water to be elevated to create a large drop.
