Nederhorst Castle is a Dutch castle in Nederhorst den Berg. Until the boundary change of 1819, Nederhorst was located in the Nedersticht in Utrecht and from 1536 belonged to the recognized knight's court towns.
The oldest known mention of a castle dates back to the 13th century. The castle may be older or has had predecessors, but archaeological research has not yet taken place here. Initially the castle was called Horst. It is thought that because there was a castle called Hogerhorst near Rhenen, the castle Horst was henceforth referred to as Nederhorst. Another explanation is that this refers to the slightly lower hill in relation to 'De Berg', on which the church was built and on which the settlement originated. Both places - of castle and church - are located on an elongated drifting dune, created during the last Ice Age. The castle was located in a strategic position, on the border between Holland and Het Sticht. In 1672 it was set on fire by French troops, and a year later it was sold. It was then rebuilt as a square castle with a hexagonal tower at each corner and gained its present appearance in the early 18th century. Around 1730 a cast iron fence was put around it.
