In 1367 a chapel was donated on the site of today's Lambertuskerk. In 1395, the Bishop of Utrecht, Friedrich von Blakenheim, elevated the chapel to the status of a parish church. In the first half of the 15th century, side aisles with secondary choirs were added, and in the middle of the 15th century a new main choir was built. The church tower received its octagonal top around 1540 and the northern side choir was demolished in 1733.
