The Work at Maarsseveen is a fortification consisting of a casemate dug into a hill. The work was established around 1880 as part of the New Dutch Water Line. The top of the hill rises more than eight meters above the surrounding terrain.
The fort consists of a barracks covered with earthworks and is surrounded by a moat about 20 meters wide. The access bridge is not original. The site covers an area of approximately 1.5 hectares. In 1886, a cannon shed was added to the work, which was demolished in 1940 during the construction of trenches. During the same time, the ramparts were largely leveled. The fortkeeper's house, dating from 1880, still exists, but has been subsequently modified.
