The Lunet aan de Snel fortification is part of our national cultural heritage and is part of the Defence Line of Honswijk. This part of the New Dutch Waterline was responsible for the flooding (inundation) of the Blokhoven polder in Schalkwijk if a rapid advance of the enemy had to be prevented in times of war.
De Lunet is located on the Lekdijk on the Island of Schalkwijk, a stone's throw from Fort Honswijk. The total site of Lunet aan de Snel covers almost 2.5 hectares. On the west side of the Lunet is the inundation canal. The fortification owes its name to the river Snel, which runs from the east side towards the Blokhoven polder.
