In the Westbroekse Zodden, the swamp forest landscape full of alders and willows can still be admired. The area is partly open, and there is a beautiful hiking trail (Bert Bospad) through the swamp forest and along quaking bogs and reedlands. The Maarsseveense Plassen can be easily overlooked from the Oudedijk (Tienhoven).
Zodde means low and swampy land. The area lies on the border of sand and peat. In the former swamps in this area, dead plants accumulated over thousands of years and thick layers of peat formed.
