The designation Oud- in the name indicates that this castle was established before the more easterly located castle Broekhuisen.
In the 18th century, the house fell into disrepair. An image of Oud-Broekhuizen from 1731 shows a residential tower. In 1772, there was still a square tower present. The remains of it served for many years as a sheepfold and were demolished in 1905.
