The Bergse Plaat is one of the recent new housing estates built by the municipality of Bergen op Zoom. The neighborhood is located in the southwest of the municipality and is bordered by the Markiezaatsweg, the Laan van Reimerswaal, and by the Binnenschelde and the Zoommeer.
The Plaat owes its name to an old sandbank that existed when Bergen op Zoom was still located by the Oosterschelde and therefore had ebb and flow. In the area, there used to be a number of villages that disappeared due to the Sint-Felix flood in 1530 and afterwards. The names of the drowned villages can be found in several street names in the Bergse Plaat.
