In 1649 Joan Huydecoper van Maarsseveen bought from the heirs of Sebastiaan van Geesbergen a large site on and around this location, including the farm / homestead Geesbergen on it. The new owner, who already owned the Goudestein estate, sold part of the site and subdivided the rest. Among other things, one of the plots was used to later build the adjacent country estate Leeuwenburg. Until 1681 Geesbergen remained the property of the Huydecoper family. It is unclear when the current country estate Geesbergen, a national monument, was built. The next owners/residents of Geesbergen included the Franco Mendes family and Jacob Bicker Raye. In the first half of the 20th century, Geesbergen was used as a nursery, where a café was built next to the mansion from building materials from demolished outbuildings. The catering function at Geesbergen has remained ever since.
