If you look closely you will see that the right half of this country estate Beek en Hoff is the original house, as shown in the old photo from 1910. The square house with the front door in the middle was enlarged in 1938 to serve as a monastery.
The original house was built in 1752 by IJsbrand Kieft Balde, the craftsman of Loenen. He demolished the house that had been on this spot since 1650. From 1821 to 1918 there was a bone black factory next to the house. Bones from abattoirs were brought in by barge to be burned into paint dye.
In the overtuin aan de Vecht there is a playhouse and a tea dome. From 1995 to 2012, marriages were performed in the dome, because in that period Beek en Hoff was the town hall of Loenen. In 2012 Loenen merged with Breukelen and Maarssen to form the municipality of Stichtse Vecht. This town hall became superfluous and is now privately owned.
