The Eelerberg is one of the northernmost hills of the Sallandse Heuvelrug. With its 40 meters it is certainly not the highest, but historically it is an absolute winner: there is a beautiful 19th-century country house, which is said to still be heated in the original way. And in the old sanatorium where TB patients were once nursed, you are now very welcome for a cup of coffee with some goodies!
Estate de Eelerberg
It is 1847 when the Veening Meinesz family from Leusden purchases the wild land around Hellendoorn. There must be an estate as was customary in the 19th century: grand and compelling. Craftsmen drive back and forth. Trees are planted, avenues are laid out and houses are built. Not only a country house is rising, but also a steward's house, a coach house and a gardener's house. A deer camp, arboretum and pond are of course also not missing. The belvedere (watchtower) of that time has now lost out to the ever higher growing trees, but the rest of the beautiful estate is still intact and that remains the case - thanks to its current status as a national monument. The house is not accessible
