In Woudrichem, the Meuse and the Rhine - here called the Waal - merge again, after they separated on the proud Doornenburg. The rivers indicate to such an extent that people speak of the Land of Maas and Waal.
The ramparts and canals that were built in Woudrichem in 1580 are still as they were then. You will be tempted to take a walk on top of the ramparts. Woudrichem was once a prosperous fishing village. In the 15th century it had to give the thumbs up to Gorinchem, which lies a little further north. In the small harbor you will only find pleasure boats.
