The Staatsmijn Emma was a Dutch coal mine that operated from 1911 to 1973 located between Treebeek (then a municipality of Heerlen, now a municipality of Brunssum) and Hoensbroek (now a municipality of Heerlen). The Emma, which primarily extracted fat coal for industrial use, was the second largest coal mine in the Netherlands. The mine had five levels located at depths of 325, 410, 546, 700, and 855 meters below the surface. With more than 109 million tons of coal, it achieved the highest total net production of all mines in the Netherlands.
