Lilbosch Abbey, founded in 1883, is an abbey of so-called Cistercian monks, better known as 'Trappists'. This monastic life follows the Rule of St. Benedict and has its own accents.
It is essentially a
a common contemplative life, in which prayer, silence, sobriety and love are central, in order to finally become one with God.
Although a monk lives in seclusion, his life may be a sign of hope for other people, who can often feel hunted and oppressed in today's society.
A monastery is therefore a place to escape, temporarily or otherwise, from this delusion of the day. Many brothers have preceded you, but at Lilbosch Abbey it is still possible to find peace and quiet and even stay there.
Do you need to take a break from the fast-paced life? The abbey is happy to open its gates to guests who want to reflect and are looking for a bit of life deepening and silence.
The monks in Lilbosch Monastery are also the founders of Livar, the Limburg monastery pig. The natural way of life and nutrition of the animals guarantee a special type of meat that has now built up a reputation.
The farm is still attached to the abbey and guided tours by appointment are possible.
Lilbosch Abbey is one of the wonder locations on the Route full of Wonder. During this cycle route through the Grensmaas Valley, more than 30 locations can be visited digitally when they are not open to the public. Curious about the stories or take a look inside?
