Already in 1399, there was mention of a 'raithuys' at the Markt. On July 16, 1554, a city fire reduced the city center to ashes and also destroyed the town hall. It was rebuilt in the following years. Around 1700, the town hall underwent a significant renovation with the current facade. From then on, it also served as the meeting place for the States of the Overkwartier of Gelre. In 1695, construction began on a knight's chamber. In 1876, the facade of the town hall was plastered according to a plan by architect Ch. Weber. In 1905, the town hall was thoroughly restored and expanded, including a new council chamber. From October 1953 to 1955, a renovation was carried out, and the building Markt 32 was added to the town hall. Later, new construction was carried out behind the town hall.
