Koppelstraat is a street in the historic center of Bredevoort. The street starts as a side street of the Landstraat and continues all the way to the Winterswijksestraat where the Schaarsbeek flows.
In the past, Koppelstraat ended at the point where the Georgiuskerk now stands, against the city wall. At the height of the entrance to the church, there was a large roundel, where the street branched off into "Achterstraat", Officierstraat, and 't Walletje. After the dismantling of the fortifications of Bredevoort, Koppelstraat was extended and continued. The section between the Sint Georgiuskerk and Tolhuisweg used to be called Koppeldijk. There is a tendency to think that the "coupling" of this street to the outside explains the name. The opposite is true; the name comes from the field name De Koppele, a community pasture located in the Zwanenbroek. The Koppelkerk is also named after it.
