The windmill De Vlijt is located at Molenstraat 12 in Zuidwolde in the municipality of De Wolden in the Dutch province Drenthe. In 1877 the mill of Zuidwolde burned down. The owner Jan Geerts Wassens then bought an existing mill from the Zuidplaspolder. This mill, built in 1838, was built in Zuidwolde by the original builder, C.H. Schiller from Dalfsen. After the Second World War, the mill fell into disrepair. After two restorations in the early sixties and the eighties of the 20th century, the mill served for several years.
Windmill De Vlijt in Zuidwolde had been standing there for years as if it could have ended at any moment. But thanks to new hope, a donation allowed foundation De Meule van Wassens to purchase the old belt mill in 2018 and start restoring it. On Saturday, September 4, 2021, the restoration was complete and the mill was opened by Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix!
A great reward for the efforts of the many volunteers who were involved in the restoration of the mill.
