The Tricot factory is a former textile factory, now used as an apartment complex, and is located on Wilhelminastraat in Winterswijk. The Tricot was founded in 1888 by Geert Jan Willink, a nephew of Jan Willink, who was then director of the steam weaving mill de Batavier. Geert Jan Willink had been working in his uncle's company since 1864. Jan Willink was a wealthy man and had a large villa built at the corner of Wilhelminastraat by the architect Richter in 1864. This villa would later be named Tricot villa. Geert Jan Willink first experimented with machine knitting using tricot machines in the coach house of his uncle's villa for 2 years. During this time, the construction of the Tricot had already begun, which opened in 1890.
