Stone of Later - Jano van Gool
steel, clay, glass, concrete
1993
"From the present
we cherish the past
in science
that the future is contained
in what we experienced yesterday
That past is mirrored
in this ancient boulder
He bears the name
which belongs to him from now on
stone from later'
The artwork consists of two stainless steel plates of three centimeters thickness. These carry a large boulder of more than 2000 kilos that comes from the Ardennes. At the bottom, this stone is flattened. A screen-printed photo is attached here. Right under the floating boulder, a layered mirror is sunk into the bottom. Screen-printed photos have also been incorporated into the round mirror place. These refer to the Goirle as van Gool remembers it from the past. With all these elements, Van Gool emphasizes the theme of "looking back in memory".
