The Heempark, diagonally opposite the Genneper Watermill, is not focused on urban agriculture, but on native plant growth, and education about it.
The Botanical Garden was built on a former landfill site of war rubble. In more than thirty years, hundreds of volunteers have transformed three hectares of land into a 'paradise on the Dommel'.
Upon entering, you will see an educational herb garden on the left, with beds of plants, grouped around themes such as kitchen herbs, saints, etc. Between the beds are a pond and several insect hotels.
Between this informative garden and a wall stack, a number of native plants are sold for a reasonable price. The seeds of these plants are for sale at the nearby environmental education center, the MEC, with which there is a large collaboration.
Behind the stacking of walls, about twenty types of landscape have been laid out, which are characteristic of East Brabant, a nice walk through various parts of Kempen and Meierij.
Admission to the garden is free, young and old can go here for educational purposes, the instruction garden with 400 different plant species offers space for this. Many preschoolers have already been introduced to nature in an exciting way via the gnome path.
