The Erfgooiers had common grazing lands; the meenten. These were located in the lower parts of the Gooi where the water level was high enough. Each Erfgooier was given the right to let a certain number of cows graze on these meenten; the so-called grazing right. The cows were branded so that the owner of the cow could be identified.
