The village of Huizen developed into a fishing village before 1700. About 200 years ago there were about 150 fishermen and more than 200 fish hawkers. Before the construction of the port, all botters were off the coast. It was not until 1853 that the port was dug and the ships could be safely moored in the port and the fish could be easily unloaded. The port has recently been further expanded with wooden houses in the style of yesteryear in which, among other things, a hotel and several restaurants are located.
