The old buildings refer partly to the time when many farmers lived in Huizen and partly to fishing. The old village largely consists of solitary situated old buildings. In the Christian village, a local traditional costume was worn for a long time. In 1967, Huizen was designated as a growth center, after which large new neighborhoods arose around the old village. In the museum Het Schoutenhuis, which is also a tourist information location, the history of historic Huizen can be found.
