The water tower of Oud-Groevenbeek is a piece of scenery in the landscape: a 'folly', in architectural terms. A structure that is deliberately useless and bizarre, and that only serves to beautify the landscape. A fake tower, then, although it's not completely useless. There used to be a water reservoir inside. Today, the tower no longer supplies water, but it is still very suitable as a bat hangout: various bat species live in the basement, such as fringe-tailed bat, bearded bat and long-eared bat.
