Cemetery of Baarlo

The cemetery of Baarlo is a graveyard by the former chapel, which was located in the hamlet of Baarlo within the parish of Vollenhove in the Dutch province of Overijssel.
At the site of the cemetery in Baarlo, there stood a chapel until the nineteenth century. This chapel had been there since the 15th century. Not only the residents of Baarlo, but also those of Blokzijl and surrounding areas came here to worship. Even after the Reformation, the chapel remained in use as a church for the inhabitants of this area. When Blokzijl got its own church in 1609, the chapel in Baarlo remained in use as a chapel for the cemetery. The cemetery and the chapel were transferred to the Reformed Church of Blokzijl in 1774. During the storm surge of 1825, the chapel was severely damaged and eleven years later it was sold for demolition to the community council of Vollenhove. What remained was the old cemetery, which is still owned by the church board of the Protestant community in Blokzijl.
