The boat lift, better known as the Oververhaal, is a construction at the Broekerhaven in the North Holland town of Bovenkarspel, with which ships can be transferred from the Westwortelsloot to the Havenkolk and vice versa.
As early as the 17th century, there was a so-called overstory on this site to be able to lift ships from one water to another. After the storm surge of 1916, it was decided to replace the overstory with a boat lift. The hoisting installation was made by the company P.M. Duyvis in Koog aan de Zaan. The carrying cage for the ships could be operated electrically. On the north side, a control building was erected next to the hoisting installation. Later, a second building was added. The hydraulic engineering works were carried out by the company Bruinsma & de Boer in Enkhuizen. In 1924 the boat lift was ready for use. Until 1969, the lift was used for commercial shipping. In the years 1992 and 1993 the installation was restored. From that time on, the lift serves pleasure boating.
