The Eemscentrale is a power plant located north of Delfzijl, in the Eemshaven. The current owner of this plant is Engie Energie Nederland. The plant consists of a part that has been active since 1978 and a new part that has been operational since 1996. Both parts use cooling water from the Wadden Sea. In the new part of the plant, there are five gas-fired CCGT units that together produce 1750 MW of electricity. Two units were taken out of production for several years but were brought back into use in the second half of 2020 after major maintenance.
