The St. Vitus Church is a Roman Catholic church dedicated to St. Vitus in the Frisian village of Blauwhuis. The church was built between 1869 and 1871 according to the design of state architect P.J.H. Cuypers. The supervisor, C.H. Peters, later also became a state architect. The three-aisled cross basilica in neo-Gothic style features a prominent tower with a spire. Both the main tower and the roof finial have an octagonal spire between four gables. This is an element that Cuypers often applied, as well as the alternation of heavier and lighter columns in the interior. Nevertheless, both this alternating system and the shape of the spires are unusual for neo-Gothic churches in the Netherlands. Cuypers was said to have been inspired by English Victorian church architecture in his design.
