Levefanum was a Roman settlement in the province of Lower Germania. Levefanum was a frontier fortress along the northern border of the Roman Empire; the so-called limes. Castellum Levefanum was located between present-day Rijswijk and Wijk bij Duurstede on the left bank of the Lower Rhine, where it now splits into the Kromme Rijn and the Lek. In Roman times, the main branch of the Rhine ran across today's Lower Rhine, Kromme Rijn and Old Rhine to the North Sea.
