The Prins Bernhard locks form the shipping connection between the river Waal and the southern part of the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal. They are located on the east side of Tiel, the lock gates were built by Werkspoor Utrecht in 1952 and owned by Rijkswaterstaat.The lock complex consists of two lock chambers. The oldest dates from 1952 and is 350 m long and 18 m wide. This lock was designed by J.P. Josephus Jitta. The second chamber was built in 1974 and is 260 m long and 24 m wide.
