The Prins Bernhard Locks form the shipping connection between the Waal River and the southern part of the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal. They are located on the east side of Tiel, and the lock gates were built by Werkspoor Utrecht in 1952 and are owned by the Rijkswaterstaat. The lock complex consists of two lock chambers. The oldest dates back to 1952 and is 350 m long and 18 m wide. This lock was designed by ir J.P. Josephus Jitta. The second chamber was built in 1974 and is 260 m long and 24 m wide.
