The mill stands on the original bastion of the northern city wall of Rhenen where a mill had stood for centuries. The name of the mill comes from its location: within the city wall. The construction of the current mill coincided with the demolition of the city wall in 1803. Until the year 1934, the mill served for grinding grain. The nickname 'Panorama mill' is logical, because you can enjoy a beautiful view of the city and the Rhine from the mill. A cannonball made a hole in the hull of the mill in World War II, this hole was later made into a round window.
