From the 14th century onwards, the peat soils in the Province of Utrecht were reclaimed from the Vecht onwards. In long plots, the miners in Westbroek and Achttienhoven worked up to the high grounds, the border of Hilversum, which belonged to Holland. In the 16th century, this limit was reached. In the 20th century, farms also arose on the Hilversum side of the plots.
