The Regional Archive Tilburg is the continuation of the Regional Historical Center Tilburg, which in turn was established in 1997 after the merger of the Municipal Archive Tilburg and part of the Regional Archive Oisterwijk.
The municipal reorganization that took effect on January 1, 1997 eliminated the basis for the Regional Archive Oisterwijk. The regional archive was a joint arrangement between the municipalities of Oisterwijk, Moergestel, Hilvarenbeek, Diessen, Oost-, West- and Middelbeers, Goirle, Hooge and Lage Mierde, Drunen, Loon op Zand, Berkel-Enschot, and Udenhout. Due to the reorganization, Udenhout and Berkel-Enschot became part of the municipality of Tilburg, Hooge and Lage Mierde merged into Reusel-De Mierden, Drunen went to Heusden, and Oost-, West- and Middelbeers came under Oirschot. Collaboration with the Municipal Archive Tilburg provided a solution, and thus a new archive service was established. The increase in the number of municipalities called for a new name: Regional Historical Center Tilburg.
