St. James' Chapel

St. James' Chapel is an old chapel in Galder in the Dutch province of North Brabant, dedicated to Saint James the Greater.
The chapel was founded in 1468 and functioned as a quarter church. In 1517 the chapel was extended and the tower was also built. Because of the tower, with angled buttresses and two sections, the chapel looks more like a small village church. The original village developed around the chapel, while the current village is located just south of it. From 1648-1798, when the chapel was in Reformed hands, it was nevertheless maintained. In 1824 the walls of the nave were lowered to make the chapel suitable as a school. In 1881 the chapel was declared unsuitable as a school. In 1934 the chapel was restored under the direction of Hendrik Willem Valk. In 1976 a statue of St. James was placed in chamotte by Harry Storms. Another restoration followed in 1979. Masses are still celebrated regularly.
