The flint mines of Rijckholt or Groot Atelier are a complex of mines in Rijckholt, where flint was extracted during the Neolithic period. This took place between 3950 BC and 2650 BC. The flint was used to make weapons and tools. The flint mines are the oldest known form of mining in the Netherlands. The flint mines are located in the Savelsbos at the edge of the Margraten Plateau. Just to the north lie the Schone Grub with the flint mines Schone Grub, Abri van Rijckholt, and the Henkeput. Research on these mines is a good example of mining archaeology.
