The fourteenth-century Erenstein Castle is located in the Anstel valley and owes its name to its first occupant, knight Adam van Ederen. He chose this strategic spot - on the trade route between Cologne and Bruges - to collect tolls at the bridge over the Anstelerbeek. In the castle garden, which you will walk through later on this route, is the bust of Gabriel Grupello. This famous Flemish sculptor spent the last years of his life in the castle and died here in 1730. Today, Erenstein Castle is a restaurant.
