The Grebbedijk forms the connection between Utrechtse Heuvelrug (Grebbeberg) and the Veluwe Massif (Wageningse Berg). The dike protects the residents of the entire Gelderse Vallei up to Amersfoort against high waters in the Rhine. In 1995 the situation was critical here, but since then this dike has also been reinforced.
Walking along the dike, you have a good view of 'De Blauwe Kamer,' the riverbank reserve of Het Utrechts Landschap, which is located between the dike and the river Rhine. In 1992, the summer dike was breached, allowing river water to flow in and out freely since then.
Galloway cattle and Konik horses graze here, helping to maintain the newly created vegetation.
Since 2002, the Blauwe Kamer has also been connected to the Grebbeberg, thus forming part of the ecological main structure.
