More than 30 bridges have been built to pass the 59km long Amsterdam-Rhine Canal. 'Our' Goyer Bridge is one of them. As the name suggests, this canal connects the IJ of Amsterdam with the Rhine, which, where they meet, is called Waal. You wouldn't know it sometimes, but it's the busiest canal in the world!
The canal was opened in 1952 and later widened to 100 to 120 metres.
Another salient detail: Anton Mussert, founder and leader of the NSB, was an engineer at the Provincial Water Management of Utrecht and made a substantial contribution to the creation of the canal.
