According to Harenberg, the Van Lintelo family may be the namesake of the hamlet. Although, according to de Geer van Oudegein, it could also have been the other way around.
The residential area of Lintelo is located in a triangle enclosed by the Gendringseweg, the Schooldijk and the Halteweg. Lintelo is located about four kilometres east-southeast of Varsseveld and three kilometres west of the municipal capital of Aalten. Outside the residential area, Lintelo has a large rural area with agricultural businesses. Lintelo is located at about twenty meters above sea level. Approximately 500 meters north of Lintelo runs the Arnhem-Winterswijk railway line. Originally, Lintelo had a staging area, but it was closed in 1938. Parallel to the railway line, another 200 meters to the north, runs the Varsseveldsestraatweg, the N318. At Lintelo, this road is partly bordered by a 4-row avenue planting of monumental old pedunculate oaks.
