Rijksstraatweg 7, Leersum
Construction history: 1383 to 1950
On 25 and 26 March 1945 Zuilenstein was bombed. In 1950 the remains up to and including the foundation were demolished.
Between 1981 and 1983 a new house was built near the site of the former castle.
In 1381 to 1383 the castle was bequeathed to Jan van Zuylen. The castle remained in this family until 1502.
In 1549 Ernst van Nijenrode became the owner of the castle, whose daughter Geertruid inherited the castle in 1558, after the death of her father. She got married with Goert van Reede van Saesfeld, who also owns Amerongen.
In 1609 Johan van Renesse van der Aa bought the castle, who then sold it to Prince Frederik Hendrik in 1630. Prince Frederik Hendrik had the castle thoroughly renovated in the form it retained until 1945.
In 1897, Godard John George Carel, Count of Aldenburg-Bentinck, became the owner of the castle.
From 1800 the castle is no longer inhabited by the owners.
