The Breeveen is a nature reserve of about 85 hectares near Leersum. It is managed by the Utrecht Landscape Foundation. The landscape consists of a mix of forests and a plain with mainly shrub heather. There are also some remarkably large, prehistoric burial mounds at Breeveen and there are also remnants of trenches that can be traced back to the Second World War.
What is special about Breeveen is that there are viviparous lizards to be found. Self-contained birds are also present, such as the raven, woodlark and stonechat. To prevent the heath from becoming grassed, there are cattle in the area that also graze on the adjacent Leersumse Veld.
