The Flood Monument is a 19th-century memorial in the Dutch town of Beneden-Leeuwen, in the province of Gelderland.
On 1 February 1861, a flood disaster occurred near Leeuwen due to drifting ice. Due to a breach of the Waalbandijk, the entire Land van Maas en Waal was flooded and 37 people drowned. It wasn't until May that most of the water had disappeared. In the year after the disaster, it was decided to erect a memorial, but implementation was not forthcoming. In 1874, King William III celebrated his silver jubilee. It was decided to erect a monument in memory of the disaster and as a "token of special tribute and gratitude for what His Majesty did in 1861 to alleviate the need". The monument was unveiled on October 28, 1874.
