To the east of the village of Oijen (near Oss), between the beautiful Lindenlaan, the floodplains, and the Maas, lies the castle of Oijen. Maria of Brabant commissioned the construction of the Castle of Oijen in 1361. As an outpost on the Maas, it was meant to protect Brabant from invasions by the Gelderlanders. Once, this was a gigantic castle with buildings extending beyond the dikes. What remains now are the two front buildings.
