The House of Zessen is located on West-Kinderdijk in Alblasserdam and was built in 1923. The house was designed by Cornelis van Eesteren for the widow A. van Zessen. It is the only residential building designed by Van Eesteren that has been built and still exists today.
The house is situated in Alblasserdam, the birthplace of Cornelis van Eesteren, son of the contractor Balten van Eesteren, who carried out the construction order. With the House of Zessen, Cornelis van Eesteren aimed to create a modern interpretation of a dyke house. It is an early example of modern functionalist architecture.
