The Selwerderdiepje is the part of the course of the river Hunze between the city of Groningen and Wierumerschouw. Additionally, or possibly originally, it was the name of a waterway dug around 1400 that connected the Schuitendiep with the Borgham, a meander of the Hunze where the neighborhood De Hoogte is now located. This waterway ran parallel to the Boterdiep and ensured that the Hunze flowing towards the city flowed north of the city in the original course of the river.
