Windmill 't Slot was literally built on the remains of Gouda Castle, which was demolished in 1577. As early as 1582, the city granted permission for the construction of a windmill on this conveniently located high spot on the water.
Before 1681, the first mill was replaced by an octagonal stone scaffolding mill. On April 4, 1831, this mill burned down, after which the current round stone tower mill was erected in 1832.
The original miller's house, in which the miller now lives, is built against the mill. In terms of equipment, the mill is still fully equipped for grinding grains by wind power. Volunteer miller/resident Henny Noorlander still regularly operates the sails and the grinding device.
