Uitwijkse Molen

The Uitwijkse Molen is a polder mill from 1700, located on the Uppelse Steeg between Uppel and Sleeuwijk in the North Brabant municipality of Altena. The owner is Molenstichting Land van Heusden en Altena.

The mill is a so-called seesaw mill and has been used as a polder mill. Together with the Rijswijk Mill, which burned down in 1907, the polder Rijswijk and Uitwijk was drained. In total there were seven mills together. In 1927 it was torn from the mill by a gust of wind, after which it was restored. The Uitwijkse Molen was in operation until 1962 and was restored in 1966-1967, after which it was regularly put into operation on a voluntary basis. In recent years, it has become increasingly clear that major maintenance is needed. In September 2010, both rods were ironed for a major restoration, which was completed at the end of 2011. A short distance away is the Zandwijkse Molen.
