Estate De Horsten

Source: Groenehartstocht

Description

The estate originated from three purchases by Prince Frederik, namely Raephorst, Eikenhorst, and Ter Horst. The property complex that De Horsten was part of was at that time part of a larger whole, as the prince had made more purchases, including the estate De Paauw and Groot Haesebroek across the national road, where he went to live. The whole was surrounded by corner posts with the text "Own hunting ground of H.R.H. Prince Frederik".

After the death of Prince Frederik, the property complex with De Horsten was inherited by his daughter Princess Marie. After the birth of Princess Juliana, the first in line for the throne, there was less reason for Princess Marie to retain her father's property in the Netherlands. Through a purchase in 1903, De Horsten became the property of Queen Wilhelmina and then passed on to her only child Queen Juliana, who bequeathed it upon her death to her eldest child Queen Beatrix. In November 2017, she bestowed it upon her own eldest child, King Willem-Alexander. It should be noted that two of his cousins, Princes Floris and Pieter-Christiaan, received the perpetual right of leasehold and building rights for the farms Raaphorst and Horstlaan 14.
